This is another piece carved from that decaying elm log. I wanted to see what the grain was doing on the inside as well as the outside. The 'pearl' is cut from the same log, but it had a much darker color than the rest of the tree. Working with decaying wood is a bit of a gamble. Sometimes I'll work for several hours and end up with a worthless pile of chips, because the log was too far gone to be salvaged.
